Abraham on Traumatic Injuries

Jerry: What is the role of thought in traumatic injuries? Abraham, are traumatic injuries created in the same way that diseases are created? And can they be resolved through thought? In other words, like a breakage of something that happened in a momentary incident as opposed to a long series of thoughts leading up to it.

Abraham: Whether the trauma to your body seemed to come suddenly as a result of an accident or whether it came from a disease such as cancer, you've created the situation through your thought and the healing will come through your thought as well. Chronic thoughts of ease promote wellness while chronic stressful or resentful or hateful or fearful thoughts promote disease. But whether the result shows up suddenly as in falling and breaking your bones, or more slowly as in cancer, whatever you are living always matches the balance of your thoughts.

Once you've experienced the diminishment of well being, whether it has come from broken bones or internal diseases, it is not likely that you will suddenly find good feeling thoughts that match those of your Inner Being. In other words, if before your accident or disease you were not choosing thoughts that aligned with well being, it's not likely that now that you are faced with discomfort or pain or a frightening diagnosis, you will suddenly find that alignment.

It is much easier to achieve great health from moderate health than to achieve great health from poor health. However you can get to wherever you want to be from wherever you are, if you are able to distract your attention from the unwanted aspects of your life and focus on the aspects that are more pleasing. It really is only a matter of focus.

Sometimes a frightening diagnosis or a traumatic injury is a powerful catalyst in getting you to focus your attention more deliberately on things that do feel good. In fact, some of our best students of Deliberate Creation are those who have been given a frightening diagnosis where doctors have told them that there is nothing more that can be done for them, who now, since they have no other options, deliberately begin to focus their thoughts.

It is interesting that so many people will not do what really works until all other options have been exhausted, but we do understand that you've acclimated to your action-oriented world and so action does seem to most of you to be the best first option. We're not guiding you away from action, but instead, encouraging you to find better feeling thoughts first and then follow with the action that you feel inspired to.

Abraham on Pain

Abraham-Hicks,  07-09-95

Abraham: When you feel the pain, acknowledge what pain is: Pain is help on the way. Pain is what it feels like when the help is flowing, and I'm really not letting it flow - as much as I would like to. IOW, pain is a combination of faster moving energy (which is help), and my resistance. So, as you embrace the pain (because that means help is on the way) and then try to relax in order to let the help in, you actually relax into the pain - relax into the pain. As you accept the stiffness as energy flowing, then rather than cursing it, or damning it, or wanting it to go away, you say, bless this stiffness, this is help on the way. Can you feel the difference in embracing something and in pushing something away? In relaxing in to the pain rather than resisting the pain? In acknowledging the pain as evidence of energy flowing which is healing energy?

Seth on Why Diets Don't Usually Work

Seth, The Nature of Personal Reality, Session 660

Seth: Diets do serve momentarily as outer signs that you are in control, and can seize the initiative; and as such they can be important. Usually, however; a pattern of unsuccessful diets occurs, operating then as a series of negative suggestions. The resistance is the result of conflicts in beliefs. You think you are overweight and accept this as reality. Steps to lose weight do not make sense in the face of that belief. They are 'unrealistic' or even impossible.

The same applies to underweight conditions. In each case frequent attention to the scales serves as another negative stimulus, reinforcing the condition. The effort to eat more will be as resisted by the chronically underweight, as the effort to refrain from eating will be by the obese.

Not only will these reactions occur, but opposing tendencies will be brought to bear. The concentration upon not eating, and the resulting tension, may instead cause increased consumption. And the underweight person may actually eat less the harder he or she tries to eat more —the latter being interpreted as an impossibility by the overriding belief in the underweight condition.

The best thing to do is to stop all such efforts, but instantly begin altering your beliefs as instructed in this chapter.

The reason why some lose-weight groups succeed in their therapy, at least momentarily, is that belief in the worth of the self is stressed. Unfortunately, weight is attacked as 'bad' or 'evil', symbolic moral judgments enter the act. The therapy seldom has long-reaching effects because from then on any gained weight is even more negatively charged.

Seth on Botox. (Sort of.)

Seth,  03/02/76

Seth: Now: it may seem to most people that an exuberant, always-vital, energetic, healthy body would indeed be one of the greatest gifts of all--a body that never worried or showed signs of any disorder, a body that went ahead on its own, so to speak, propelled by feelings of strength and vigor.

This certainly sounds like a fine ideal. Yet I tell you that in such a body you would finally feel like a prisoner, for your moods and reflections, your feelings and your thoughts, would find no responsive mirror in your flesh.

You would wear a constant smile, and your blooming cheeks would often deny the heart's hard-earned knowledge.

It is natural and HEALTHY to yearn for a comfortable body if you are in health difficulties. The body, however, is NOT an assumed facade, but the physical materialization in your world of your inner being. All of nature is responsive, pliant, changing, each part connected with each other part.

It is quite natural, then, that during a lifetime you experience various assorted periods of temporary illness.

These will be caused by your beliefs and your feelings, but they will not be necessarily negative at all, but a demonstration of the body's responsiveness. It is not realistic to expect a life of unending, exuberant health, with no momentary lapses of any kind.

Such momentary lapses follow personal and cultural patterns. Some generations fall heir to certain fashionable diseases, for example. The body copes with inner and exterior reality, and performs a marvelous job of maintaining multitudinous balances.

Ideally, the body would always right itself after such lapses from exuberant health--but even those lapses often exercise that resiliency. Maintaining that resiliency, then, is the important issue. Many such lapses are exaggerated because of your beliefs, so that they are experienced in a more drastic form than necessary. GENERALLY drugs impede that resiliency.

Often your medical beliefs as a culture stabilize conditions that, left alone, would right themselves. As you know, this can apply for example to children being given eyeglasses. IN THE SITUATION IN WHICH YOU FIND YOURSELVES, however, eyeglasses become a more practical alternative because you do not possess the proper mental methods to offset the current belief system.

The mind may want to react. The individual may realize that his or her pace has been too fast, and so natural feelings bring about a lethargy of body, or a slight fever, or an indisposition--all quite natural, resilient activities. I do not want this ever to be interpreted to mean, a priori, and in conventional terms, that "suffering is good for the soul". A reliance and faith in the natural self, however, would be large enough to accept certain indispositions without fear, panic, or doubt.

With the best of intent most public health announcements shout the symptoms of critical diseases to the skies, so that the smallest of indispositions become the trigger for personal fear on the part of millions. Such announcements actually teach people to fear what might be happening within the body. There is a stress upon disease rather than health.

When such beliefs are shared by an entire society, then the slightest indisposition is instantly suspect.

What is it with Baldness / Hair Loss Anyway?

Abraham, Asheville, NC 05/31/09

Guest: What is it with male pattern baldness. Why is it we lose our hair? And most people in the same spot?

Abraham: Don't look over there! (Abraham and guest look at Jerry – crowd laughs) Well it's expectation. It isn't only that you inherit the propensity which is expectation also, but after you inherit the propensity, you inherit the expectation. You just get what you expect. That's why there are much more significant issues on the same subject.. like why do we decline as we move through time? The answer is your manifestations follow the pattern of your thought. Your thought creates resistance.

Guest: Can we bring it back?

Abraham: If you are willing to get in the vortex about it, your body will respond. You have the wherewithal to get any physical condition you are asking for. Could you get taller? Yes. Could you get stronger? Yes. Could you feel more vital? Yes. Can you change the nature of your physical body? Yes. But what if my hormones or my chemistry has changed? Well, your body has changed in response to your expectations.

Let's go deeper. Let's talk about cellular expectations. Do I have the ability to focus my mind in such a way to influence the behavior of those cells? Absolutely! Most people don't believe they can, so they don't bother trying. In other words, most people just accept what is, and complain about it. Almost every behavior you see when people are wanting to reduce, or change their bodies in some way, almost all of that behavior is out-of-the-vortex behavior, where if they work hard, and struggle hard enough then they believe they will get results and they get the results to the degree that they expect them.

But oh, wouldn't it be wonderful to get in the vortex, to line up with who you really are, and from inside the vortex utilize the energy that creates worlds to flow towards something that you want. If a healer can influence wellness in another who is sick, surely that same healer can shift the cells in his own body!

Guest: Wouldn't it be better to just get in the vortex and try to get comfortable about not having the hair now?

Abraham: Well, that's the starting place. If you get in the vortex and then focus on that subject then the vortex will spit you out. So the first step in staying in the vortex on that subject is to make peace with what-is. You've been hearing us talking about making peace with what-is. Making peace with it means not pushing against it. And not pushing against it is like meditation. When you make peace with it, there is no longer resistance, and now the vortex takes you right in.

Guest: And then you ask for it?

Abraham: You've already asked for it. Now you line up with what you've asked for. Just get your mind off it. If we were standing in your physical shoes, no matter what issue we were trying to find improvement on, we would just use any excuse we could find all day long to get in the vortex. We'd just get in no matter what! Why? To improve your life? Sure. To get stuff you want? Of course. But the REASON we'd get in the vortex is it just feels so good! Clarity feels so good! Surefootedness feels so good! Worthiness feels so good! Certainty in who I am and my well-being feels so good.

We'd get in the vortex because it feels good, not because getting in there will give me the goodies. All the goodies you want, you want because you want to feel good. So when you get in there and feel good they've all gotta come. Just don't be worried about the vortex spitting you out. Now you know how to get right back in. You do. You know how to get back in. You've ust gotta want to be in. Gotta find thoughts that help you in. And don't start with the hard stuff.

It's Not About Them, It's About You

Abraham-Hicks AB-20 Self Appreciation

If you're not getting along with your mate. You're not getting along with your employer. Your own physical body is sick. You don't have enough money. People are not treating you right. There is not one negative thing that you are experiencing that is happening for any other reason other than you are not appreciating yourself. When you are critical of somebody else it's not about them. It's about you.

When you are condemning the World, whether it is the political world or the religious world or the economic world or the ecological world, when you are looking at the flaws in the world, it is not about the world it is about you!! It is about the way you feel about you. And so we say friends, nothing is more important than that you establish your own relationship with you. It our promise to you that your Inner Being adores you but you close the door when you think thoughts of lack about yourself.

It isn't WHAT you eat, it's how you feel when you eat it.

Abraham - Boca Raton, FL 10/30/06

Abraham: But what's wrong with the chocolate chip cookies anyway?

Guest: Too many of them tends...

Abraham: But what causes you to call them "too many of them?" You say, "I want to be slender, but I believe the cookie is the opposite of that." So I want this but I am doing that, so how does it really feel when I'm eating the cookie?

Now stay with this, you're really gonna like it.

So if I am reaching for the relief of aligning with my physical intention, then it would feel better for me to let the cookie go as long as I believe the cookie is in opposition to where I want to go. But often that is not the subject on the table. The subject on the table is "I'm frustrated out of my mind about this and this and THIS! Oh, that cookie looks like relief! I'm frightened about this. This cookie looks like relief."

As you begin to reach for relief, there is nothing wrong with reaching for the comfort in food. There's nothing wrong with that, but just don't let that be the only comfort you are reaching for. Reach for the comfort in thought.

Now imagine this really sophisticated chemical factory that has the ability to extract from everything that you give it necessary components. Your body's ability to digest breaks everything down into usable stuff. And the cells of your body then attract to themselves the parts of that usable stuff that they most need. Very raw description, but really an accurate description, too. So your chemical factory has the ability to effectively utilize what you are eating unless you are angry about it, or frightened about it, or guilty about it. If you don't make peace with the way you are eating, you make it harder for your chemical factory to utilize it.

When you love what you are eating...

That's the biggest thing that has gone wrong with diet in your culture today. You used to eat and like your food, and now you've made all food your enemy.

It's a really rare one of you who can eat anything and not find something in it that makes you believe you should not eat it. So it is really odd to find a human eating and taking pleasure from the food. Instead, you've got this love/hate relationship with food. You want it because the cells of your body are asking for it. You were born with this guidance that lets you know it is time to refuel. You have this cellular calling for the food, then you give it the food and before you have even swallowed it, you've set up a vibrational wall of resistance that makes it more difficult for your body to utilize the food.

That's why different people can eat the identical food and get different results from it. If it were as you think it is, by now or long ago, you should have been able to get a formula that works for everyone - This food means THIS and this food means THIS. This combination of food means this. You are leaving out the only factor that matters. And it's the resistance/allowing factor.

It isn't WHAT you eat, it's how you feel when you eat it.
It isn't WHAT you say, it's how you feel when you say it.
It isn't WHAT you do, it's how you feel when you do it.

It's ONLY how you feel.

Abraham on Weight Loss and Body Image

Abraham - Sedona, AZ 08/25/07

Make peace with where you are. Appreciate your magnificent body as it is. Appreciate that it moves and that it is flexible and that it digests, that it assimilates. Accept the cellular metabolism, the cellular functioning.

Your body is a veritable chemical factory. It is an amazing mechanism. It is morphing constantly into that which is new. It is constantly becoming. It will be whatever you ask it to be. It will be whatever you ask it and allow it to be. It will be whatever you want it and allow it to be. It will be whatever you ask and allow it. It will be whatever you see it to be. It will be whatever you EXPECT it to be!

And most of you can't expect past what is. That's your limitation. You find it hard to expect past what is. Stretch that expectation by listening, by feeling for it. And when you start feeling - Oh, if you could feel what Source expects for you - and that's why so often you feels such strong negative emotion, that's that fear and inadequacy you describe. When you look at yourself so differently than they way Source looks at you, when you don't expect good things from you - because Source is expecting such wonderful things from you - there's a cross current going on.

You have to see as you want it to be. Never mind what is. What is does not mean diddly squat. What is doesn't matter. It's just a point in time, a momentary, manifestational indicator of how you've been thinking. Think differently and it will shift. It will morph with your thoughts every single time.

Age is Irrelevant

Abraham - Journal Excerpt 01/01/99

If we were standing in your physical shoes, we would not assign age to anyone. We would never tell anyone how old we are. We would never ask anyone how old they are. We would start a new movement, and the movement would be, "Age is irrelevant."

We would have another category on the driver's license, or on the application, and that would be "vibrational average", or we would have a mood meter: "Which of the following is true: Am I more likely to be joyful or despondent? Am I more likely to be eager or bored...?" We would gauge everything by Energy, and we would never again approach life in terms of age , because age is irrelevant. Age, or what you call age, is only a by-product of your utilization of the Energy Stream.

The Energy Stream exists. There is one Stream, and one Stream only, and your relationship is two-fold: 1. How much of the Stream am I summoning, which means, how much desire do I have? 2. And, of the Stream that I am summoning, how much of it am I allowing to flow? And everything that you live and everything that everybody else lives, everything that exists in this physical time and place, is about somebody's relationship to that Stream. How much are they summoning and how much are they letting flow through?

So you might see someone that is very decrepit who has strong desire. So they are summoning all kinds of Energy, but they've got beliefs that don't let the Energy flow, so they've got this tug of war going on inside of them all the time. They look old and decrepit before their time. In other words, they're summoning, but they're not letting it flow.

Then, you might see somebody else who doesn't have a desire in the world. They are carefree, actually peaceful, contented. They are summoning almost no Energy, whatsoever. They have no resistance. They're just sort of placid and limp. They won't live long, either. Because they're not summoning Energy. They'll have a nice life. When they're gone, you'll put on their tombstone, "Lived a good life. Short but good."

But if you are sifting through the data and constantly finding things that cause you to make a decision, and you can feel that desire boiling in your belly, and you are eagerly thinking about it, and you have discovered how to modulate your Energy so that you are excited as you think about it, not frustrated... If you've played this game and you've learned how to float your cork, you could literally live indefinitely. The question is, how much do you allow this time/space reality to evoke new decision and desire from you? And as the desire comes, how much of it do you then allow to flow through?
