How to Leave Childhood Insecurities Behind

Guest: I've done a lot of belief work and I've found the beliefs that when I get very up, when I get very excited, enthusiastic there are certain beliefs I've found that bring me down.  And of course, I activate them, but I've discovered the beliefs are basically "I'm not worthy", "I'm not good enough", basically garden variety beliefs. And I've worked hard...

Abraham: And what is a belief other than a thought you keep thinking. The word 'belief' makes it sound power and important doesn't it. A thought that you keep thinking just makes it sound like a thought that you keep thinking. So we want to play with you a little bit and say, why do you keep thinking a thought that doesn't feel good and you say, "Well, because it's a belief!" We say, Yes, but why would you continue to beat the drum of something that doesn't feel good when you beat the drum of it, you see. Do you have an answer?

Guest: I was taught it very forcefully when I was young and that's my guess.

Abraham: Because you were wanting to please someone else?

Guest: Sure. I was wanting to believe the person that taught me these things. Because they were important to me, their respect was important to me.

Abraham: Yes.

Guest. And now it's hard to shake, isn't it? These beliefs don't make sense, and yet they still arise under certain scenarios.

Abraham: Do you think the person that taught then to you...what do you think their greatest motive was? In other words, when someone teaches you something what do you think their motive is for imparting this information to you?

Guest: I could think of ... my brother gave me a lot of these messages. He wanted to make me tough. He he wanted me to be a tough little brother, so he said means things to me to make me strong, I guess, that was his....

Abraham: But do you think his true motive was?

Guest: To make himself feel better? I don't know.

Abraham: But related to you, in other words, if you are guiding someone and giving them what you consider to be your best information, what's your motive? Why do you guide someone? Why do you teach them to be tough? Because you believe they will be better off if they are tough. Why do you teach them the things that you do? IOW, there are few exceptions to the reason being you believe that it is the best for them. IOW most people that are guiding you in most ways, are doing so...

It's like our friend said earlier, his sister is trying to save him. She's not trying to send him to Hell. She's trying to send him to Heaven. She's trying to save him from what she sees are problems. And most people who are guiding you in most ways, really, really mean well, you see.

And so when you say, What do I do now about shaking those beliefs that no longer serve me?  We say get to the bottom of the reason that somebody tried to impart them to you to begin with and accept that that reason was that they wanted you to thrive and they wanted things to go well for you, and then just fast forward to things going well for you, and then thank them for their part in it.

That's a really fast way to shift those beliefs because when you say to someone, "You taught me things that don't serve me. You taught me things that I hate. You taught me things that are wrong." All they do is puff up and try to teach you more of them.

But when you say, "Thank you, for your part, in helping me to be the joyous person that I am" it is our promise for you that in the majority of cases they were wanting your success, and when you emmanate your thriving, many of them they are soothed and then they press less hard about the details that they are trying to teach you.

Guest: And that's what's happening now in my relationship with my brother, but those beliefs still arise.

Abraham: You see what happens, when you're little, or when you're not little, but when you are feeling insecure, and you express your insecurity to someone else,  they want to help you. They want to teach you something.

And so what happens to a lot of you is you felt insecure, you ask others to help you feel more secure,  and then they started giving you their opinion which now you resent. And we say, in the majority of cases they wouldn't have been trying to help you if you weren't feeling vulnerable and asking for something from them, you see.

And so now what's happening and we hear this, you know this, but what happens is... So you were insecure, and from your insecure place, you attracted somebody who tried to tell you what to do. And now you're not insecure anymore, you want them to go away.  And we want to say to you they wouldn't even be there if there wasn't still some of that vibration of insecurity within you, you see.

And that's why your question was worded so perfectly when you say, "I guess I've got these beliefs."  And that's why we said, "And what's a belief. It's a thougth you keep thinking. So, are you feeling how full circle we've come?

You don't have to go back and unlearn those things. You don't have to back and stop believing those things. You just have to believe so clearly, which means practice so clearly, the thoughts that feel good to you when you practice them now,  and only things that match what you're offering now vibrationally can come to you, you see. You can attract the best of your now brother to you now, but you got to stop beating the drum of who he was or who you were, or how what he said affected you then, or how what he said affects you now. Yes?

Seth: Media Confirms Negative Mass Cultural Beliefs Part 3 (Long)

(Seth: The Personal Sessions, aka as The Deleted Sessions from 12/03/77.)

Continued from Part 2:

This session must be taken into consideration with other ones, for I am making certain points here that are important, but that do not of course stand alone. You can if you prefer forget terms like hypnosis, but between tonight's and next Saturday night's session, I strongly advise that you take a half-hour: it can be nap time. Or any time.

Have Ruburt lie of the bed comfortably. You sit beside him or lie on the bed as you prefer-but verbally reassure him. Tell his body that the muscles can relax, that you are there, and it is safe for him to let go. Use relaxation techniques, as in hypnotic techniques, if you want. I have mentioned this before.

Often I do not state the reasons for such suggestions. To some extent - underlined and qualified - you hypnotized yourselves into your view of reality. You helped Ruburt form his. You have not taken my suggestion before for a very simple reason: part of you, Joseph, was not ready to reassure Ruburt in such a fashion, for you were not certain that it was safe to relax in such a world, and you did not want to lie to Ruburt because you believed the newspaper world so thoroughly - with all, now, of its implications, as Ruburt did.

Such an event represents an intent on both of your parts, you see, a joint effect, a changing of bodily response to a situation.

The newspapers act as hypnotic suggestion of a potent kind.

There is no one present who can confirm the newspaper's evidence. You cannot ask questions of a newspaper, or of a news program. The entire pattern of these latest sessions deals with your inner reactions to your beliefs about yourselves and the world. Tonight I am dealing with a specific area.

To some extent, however, these newspaper beliefs shut you off from full utilization from Framework Two's potency.

Hopefully, I am teaching you to reorganize your inner lives, so that you attract the best to yourselves from inner and outer reality.

Your suggestions to Ruburt along psychic lines were excellent - that he do more energy experiments. His own intention to try out of- body experiments again is also excellent because it shows a change of intent.

I want you to encourage his bodily relaxation in the same manner, creatively. You do not take chances, creatively or any other way, unless you allow your curiosity and exuberance some free play.

If the world seems too unsafe, you set up projections often against shadows, because you have accepted those shadows unthinkingly as facts.

Those ideas, mentioned earlier, even inhibit the free creative flow of our books into the world to some extent, for you do not have as clear a channel as possible.

Never compare the sale of our books to the sale of other books.

Different realities are involved-and you can then get involved with cross purposes. I have said what I intended to say. Again, these sessions are more packed than you realize. Each suggestion I give you is not only given for a reason, but has within it potentials that of course remain latent unless the suggestion is followed.

Do you have any questions?

("No, I guess not.")

Seth: Media Confirms Negative Mass Cultural Beliefs Part 2 (Long)

(Seth: The Personal Sessions, aka as The Deleted Sessions from 12/03/77.)

Continued from Part I:

(With gentle irony.) You made a remark earlier this evening to the effect that the individual could do nothing in the face of such organized behavior-a remark that by now I'm sure you regret voicing.

(I laughed.)

Those ideas to begin with began with individuals. The people who make and report the news are individuals. The people who read or view the news are individuals. To some extent through the books you are helping people alter their psychic organizations, to look at the world in a different fashion, and therefore to view a different world-a world in which their experiences are different than they would have been otherwise.

Many people are already beginning to alter their picture of the world, but they are afraid of trusting their own intuitions.

Consider the lengthy letter from the young English gentleman. In a large measure, the world in which he now lives is a highly more enjoyable and productive one than it was before. His experiences are entirely different than they would have been. In terms of probability, he took a new probable road, which means that his individual impact upon the world, and everyone he meets, will also be different and more creative than it would have been before.

Unless Ruburt does, no one will remark about this young man. No one will trace the beneficial change in his life, and their effects upon others. People generally have been taught to play down their own heroism, and to concentrate upon man's weaknesses, and so your newspapers contain categorized fact upon fact, emphasizing man's errors and stupidities.

It has become virtuous to keep track of these, as if concentrating upon errors will do anything but compound them. I am, again, not telling you to be blind to physical events, but to realize that the news media, and your organizations, are not giving you an "objective" view of the world, but a view compounded and composed by Freudian and Darwinian beliefs.

I would also like to remind you both of the difference between direct experience and second-handed tales. Examine your own personal experience with physical reality now and then when you have a moment (with irony), relying only upon your own experience.

It is impossible, I know, and not really beneficial, to try to separate yourselves entirely from the cultural world, but you should understand the makeup of that world, and be able now and then at least to separate your private experiences from it, even though they must occur in its context.

How many crimes have you each personally encountered?

How many people have been generally well-disposed toward you?

How many have been actively vicious?

What has actually been your own experience with war, with prejudice, with hatred?

How much of your view of reality has been formed by direct experience, and now much has been formed through secondary sources, such as communications media, or tales brought to you by others?

This is an excellent exercise because it puts you in touch with your own experience, and at least gives you a point from which you can make judgments of your own. Your neighbor, Joe, had pneumonia, or a cold, or the snivels (upon returning from Florida last week).

To Margaret he had pneumonia, because she organizes reality in a certain fashion, and by slightly exaggerating certain data, she then uses it to reinforce certain beliefs. She then must take steps of course to protect herself against illness, and she is in fear of robbers for the same reason. She does not trust her body nor her fellow men. She watches news for stories of illnesses and robbers.

Those ideas do not exist alone. They have an emotional effect. To some extent, it is because you have accepted the newspapers' view of reality as real, that you have allowed yourselves to dwell upon certain attitudes about your fellows-so that for example sometimes the world does not seem to deserve great art; or that you even feel you do not want to share your work with the stupid bastards (Seth said, staring at me. I laughed again).

I am trying to induce Ruburt to drop his muscular armor. In the world of his experience he does not need it. His direct experience has not included it, the cruel adult world that he must protect himself against.

It certainly does not include a frightening psychic world, actually or otherwise. Any fears he had there he picked up through reading, or through the reports of others, so let him also separate his private experience in that respect.

Collecting such distorted data about inner or outer worlds can only make an individual build up defenses, or want to.

The newspaper world is, then, highly distorted, organized in such a manner that its data reinforce negative beliefs, and constantly give evidence only of negative patterns. These then are taken as an objective picture of the fact world.

All of the heroism, the private and even mass triumph, and the good intent, have been left out.

The world is seen as a patient, sick in body, insane of mind, a thing that needs treatment, a Freudian and Darwinian monster.

Even with your own changed beliefs, the two of you still see that mirror when you read a newspaper, and do not realize the invisible organizations behind the news. It makes it seem foolhardy to relax, doesn't it? (Ironically, leaning forward for emphasis.)

All of these things to some extent stand in the way of Ruburt's recovery. They point precisely to those areas in which both of you heartily agreed, though Ruburt's way of getting work done was not yours.

Seth: Media Confirms Negative Mass Cultural Beliefs Part 1 (Long)

(Seth: The Personal Sessions, also known as The Deleted Sessions from 12/03/77)

Seth: Good evening.

Now: in basic terms you form your reality, privately and en mass-through your beliefs, of course, and those beliefs cause you to organize your psychic world in certain fashions. You use such belief organizations to concentrate upon certain data and ignore other, so that consciously and unconsciously, you organize inner and outer stimuli so that it makes sense according to your beliefs, and forms therefore a more or less dependable framework in which action and response are possible.

History is written according to the present beliefs of a historian in his time. As you know, your western world followed its own mixture of Christianity, Darwinism, and Freudian psychology. Because those ideas still are largely in the mainstream of your society, your television news, newspapers, and magazines are invisibly slanted.

The news is invisibly organized to fit certain patterns, so that when you read or hear it, it carries the seemingly indelible mark, confirming the basic beliefs of the culture. I am not speaking strictly of political parties or political newspapers, or of any specialized journals or magazines, but of the overall pattern displayed by all of your mass communications.

You can see easily, however, the highly specialized, intensified view of the world that is apparent in scientific journals. These are in sharp conflict with, for example, religious journals. If you look you can easily become aware of these specialized worlds. Regardless of these differences, the overall picture is largely the same: you cannot trust yourself, your body, the natural world.

You are everywhere presented with the evidence. The headlines speak of problems between nations, mass and private crime, illness. The misuse of animals, man's stupidity and cruelty, so it seems that the species is nearly insane.

Let us look at the invisible organization behind such material, however.

I do not want to shock you, but there are quite as many cases of honest heroism as there are crimes committed.

There are patterns of highly constructive change that never show, as far as your media is concerned.

There are as many people recovering from diseases, even by themselves, as those who succumb.

There are compensating, creative earth patterns occurring in terms of energy, but these do not show.

If you do not understand this, then you will take your newspapers and other news unthinkingly, thinking that a fairly adequate picture of world events is being portrayed-a picture that only deepens the negative feelings that are behind the invisible organization of such data.

In such a way you miss any significant evidence to the contrary.

Privately, then, you will to some extent or another have to take up defenses against that reality.

As long as you think that your physical information about the world, through newspapers and so forth, presents a fairly adequate, objective view of events, then all of the evidence to the contrary will literally be invisible, for you will continue to organize your view of the world in the old way.

You will think, for example, when a story about misuse of political power is concerned, "That's only one story. How many more politicians do the same thing?"

For the newspapers also act in a suggestive fashion, further programming your expectations.

In a way you organize your physical experience as you do your inner life, through association, through emotional association. I am not simple speaking of sensationalism in newspapers or on TV.

When you read the news or hear it, however, because of cultural beliefs you are programmed to behave in a certain fashion, in a fashion that validates, seemingly, the concepts of Freud and Darwin, and the most unfortunate aspects of Christian pessimism.

This is not done with any ill intent. Individuals collect the news and write it. To many people, some kind of organization , even one that is wobbly, is far better than facing the task of setting up an entirely new view of reality. The inner structure of most of your organizations and institutions are based on those old precepts.

Individual lives have been constructed along those frameworks.

Seth: Backstabbing Explained and Remedied

Seth, The Nature of Personal Reality, Session 622, Page 77

When someone who has been ill starts on the road to recovery through changing his beliefs, he may be quite surprised to find even his dearest allies suddenly upset, reminding him of the “reality” of his dire state for the same reasons.

Because beliefs form reality - the structure of experience - any change in beliefs altering that structure initiates change to some extent, of course. The status quo which served a certain purpose is gone, new exercises are introduced, another creative process begins. Because your private beliefs are shared with others, because there is interaction, then any determined change of direction on your part is felt by others, and they will react in their own fashion.

You are setting out to experience the most fulfilled reality that you can. To do this you have, hopefully, begun to examine your beliefs. You may want others to change. In doing so you begin with yourself. I told you (in the 619th session) to imagine a game in which you see yourself acting in line with the new desired belief. As you do so, see yourself affecting others in the new fashion.

See them reacting to you in the new way. This is highly important because telepathically you are sending them interior messages. You are telling them that you are changing the conditions and behavior of your relationship. You are broadcasting your altered position.

Some will be quite able to understand you at that level. There may be those who need the old framework, and someone, if not you, to play the part you played before. Those people will either drop out of your experience or you must drop them from yours.

Once more, if you think of daily life as an ever-moving three-dimensional painting with you as the artist, then you will realize that as your beliefs change so will your experience. You must accept the idea completely, however, that your beliefs form your experience. Discard those beliefs that are not bringing you those effects you want. In the meantime you will often be in the position of telling yourself that something is true in the face of physical data that seems completely contradictory. You may say, “I live amid abundance and am free from want,” while your eyes tell you that the desk is piled with bills. You must realize that you are the one who produced that “physical evidence” that still faces you, and you did so through your beliefs.

So as you alter the belief, the physical evidence will gradually begin to “prove” your new belief as faithfully as it did your old one. You must work with your own ideas. While there are general categories of beliefs, and general reasons for them, you must become personally aware of your own, for no one person is completely like any other. The old beliefs served a purpose and fulfilled a need.

Seth's Process to Discover Your Beliefs

There are two ways to get at your own conscious beliefs. The most direct is to have a series of talks with yourself. Write down your beliefs in a variety of areas, and you will find that you believe different things at different times. Often there will be contradictions readily apparent. These represent opposing beliefs that regulate your emotions, your bodily condition and your physical experience. Examine the conflicts. Invisible beliefs will appear that unite those seemingly diverse attitudes. Invisible beliefs are simply those of which you are fully aware but prefer to ignore, because they represent areas of strife which you have not been willing to handle thus far. They are quite available once you are determined to examine the complete contents of your conscious mind.

If this strikes you as too intellectual a method, then you can also work backward from your emotions to your beliefs. In any case, regardless of which method you choose, one will lead you to the other. Both approaches require honesty with yourself, and a firm encounter with the mental, psychic and emotional aspects of your current reality.

As with Andrea, you must accept the validity of your feelings while realizing that they are about certain issues or conditions, and are not necessarily factual statements of your reality. ‘I feel that I am a poor mother,’ or, ‘I feel that I am a failure.’ These are emotional statements and should be accepted as such. You are to understand, however, that while the feelings have their own integrity as emotions, they may not be statements of fact. You might be an excellent mother while feeling that you are very inadequate. You may be most successful in reaching your goals while still thinking yourself a failure.

By recognizing these differences and honestly following the feelings through - in other words, by riding the emotions - you will be led to the beliefs behind them. A series of self-revelations will inevitably result, each leading you to further creative psychological activity. At each stage you will be closer to the reality of your experience than you have ever been.

The conscious mind will benefit greatly as it becomes more and more aware of its directing influence upon events. It will no longer fear the emotions, or the body, as threatening or unpredictable, but sense the greater unity in which it is involved.

Seth, NOPR, Session 644, p. 213

Blogger's Note: After a few weeks of doing the hypnosis exercise to change a deeply-rooted belief, I awoke one morning with a perfectly delineated nest of beliefs on the subject. I wrote them down and chose the most emotionally charged ones with which to work directly.

Abe Classic: Belief Changing Process

Abraham: Here is the process, we can offer it to you in 30seconds.

Make a statement of desire “I WANT” and what that automatically does is pinpoint the particle that you are going to make bigger. It might already be big and it might just be a particle but that identifies what you want and it also alerts your guidance system. Two very important functions. Now that your guidance system is alerted, anything that is within you or anything that will come to you, that is not now in harmony with what you have said I WANT - you will be notified of it. As you are notified of it then you can simply release that thought from your experience by focusing again upon what you want. That is the way you bridge or alter your beliefs.
You say I WANT. That turns on your guidance system and as you move through life experience, you are sensitive to the way you feel negative emotion, you pinpoint the conflict, you focus again upon what you want and the conflict goes away. That is the process for bridging beliefs or for changing the clump of thoughts within you so that they all go together well until eventually you come to believe that which you are wanting to believe, you see.

Now, does that worry you?
There are those who that would worry. They’d say, “Abraham!! You're talking about changing beliefs!! Do we really have the right to alter those beliefs, are they not beliefs that have been carved in granite or carved and set out for all to follow?”

No!! They are not!!

Blogger note: This is some older Abe from one of the first books. I like digging back in the earlier books sometimes because the approach is just slightly different. Here they detail a process of working through it as it comes up which can be a lot easier said than done. I've really gotten a case of emotional whiplash in these situations which is why I'm combining my current work with the Seth hypnosis exercise which is a long hault, but can be more gentle with thorny issues. However, this Abe approach is good to keep in mind throughout the day as you work out a few knots piece by piece.

Abe on Core Issues: the Stuff You Thought You Left Behind

Q: So on these difficult subjects that come up and they are a part of the daily life and they are always a frustration … such as money, love and health. And you have said not to tackle the most difficult, the most pressing one first …

Abraham: Well we say that if you can focus upon things that you don’t have a big negative vibration built up around, the Universe will delivery it to you quickly which will give you confidence in your ability to focus, it will give you confidence in the Law of Attraction, it will give you confidence in your worthiness. So we always say start with easy things until you’ve proven to yourself the power of the Law of Attraction and proven to yourself your ability to focus. But once you’ve got that then we encourage you to clean up your vibration on every subject under the sun.

Your vibration is right where you last left it on every subject. So let’s say when you were in high school someone mistreated you in some way. And you never really got over it. You remember the hurt. You remember the wrong-doing. You remember how you felt. You remember the disadvantage that you took away from it. But then you left there. Eventually you stopped talking about that person. And while you still occasionally have people treat you in that way, it doesn’t come up very often and you don’t think about it that often.

And then somebody says something to you that triggers that. And so now it is active again. And as you begin pondering that again, you feel that hurt all over again. That means your vibration never moved from that hurt. You haven’t been thinking about it so it hasn’t been a big player in your vibration, but it has been lying there dormant with the potential of being activated and now something has happened that activated it. Now because it was there where you last left it, and you are living in the world and you are observing things around the world, different things that you observe have the potential of activating that because it is still where you last left it.

So our encouragement is that sooner of later you take it and you talk it downstream. You do it on purpose. It might require that you take two or three days, here and there, here and there. But you leave it in a whole different place. Now you’ve left it in a different place. It doesn’t have the potential of ever being activated again. In other words you’ve moved yourself to a new place and now it’s not going to curb out of the bushes and club you over the head over and over again, because you’ve shifted the vibration of it.

Q: Even though that thought still exists?

Abraham: The thought exists but you took that subject and deliberately morphed it … in other words, while that happened, you launched Rockets of Desires. So the Source within you saw that relationship, saw that happen, saw what you didn’t want, saw what you did want, and the Source within you gives its undivided attention to what you want that you derived from that
experience. And that Source perspective on that has been potentially active with you all along. So when you deliberately talk about that subject and talk yourself into alignment about it, now that can never creep up again

All of your power is right here because you ability to focus is right here. So as you use your “power of now” and you focus right now on something that closes the gap and causes you to align with Who You Are, you become this vibrational being that is the extension of Source energy and before you know it those vibrations become your dominant vibrations which makes you impervious to mistreatment. It makes it not possible for anything other than what you want to flow into your experience. As long as anything other than that is happening, it means you got those vibrations still active so there’s still some work to do.

So it’s fun for us to watch people get hold of this idea of finding relief, finding relief, finding relief because when your intent is to feel good no matter what the subject is that moves through your mind … so subject after subject, you just find the best feeling thought about it that you can find. Before you know it because of all this different variety of subjects, you’ve cleaned up these core issues that you’ve been carrying around for a while. And then you are finally this loving being who feels invincible.
